Filled to the top

I just came back from a trip, from Radium on Tuesday. The girls decided to take a trip there oh about a month ago. We were going to go from Sunday to Tuesday. There were four of us and we were all very excited. I was surprised at my reaction when one of the gals suggested that we go on Saturday after work…I couldn’t do that! I had things to get ready, I had to organize myself and there where things that  I needed to do before I left. I couldn’t possibly leave on Saturday. Plus it would be getting dark and there are animals on the road…blah , blah blah. When I go somewhere I like to have my house clean, laundry done and since I have some dietary restrictions I always like to make sure that I have lots of food! Since we weren’t taking my vehicle and I wasn’t driving I said I would go with the group decision. We left Saturday after work, about 4 pm.

I packed my suitcase a cooler full of food and away we went. The drive was spectacular! I kept thinking to my self wow this is so beautiful I would look in another direction and think the same thing…wow this is so beautiful I am fortunate to have this opportunity to see all of this.

We arrive at our condo and we are on the golf course what beautiful view from our patio. With the mountains as the back drop…just beautiful! This was only the beginning.

We had a wonderful time, we had great conversations, lots of laughs, we hiked and we had fantastic meals. We created all of our meals… we brought our fresh food from Calgary. It was really fun for all of us to be around the island in the kitchen cooking/creating meals while we laughed and had fun. One of the women had mentioned that she was reading about how a group of women in their 90’s had created community and that is why they feel they have lived so long. By having created a strong bond…having the community is what makes us stronger and healthy. Actually we had to make a quick stop in Banff and we saw the book for sale (The Blue Zone)…a group of women who had been born into a community where they knew each other all their lives and shared the prosperity of the group as well as supported each other in hard times. The Blue Zone research suggests that community is in large part the foundation of living a long happy, healthy life.

I came back from the trip feeling like my cup was full. I reflect on the memories that we created on the weekend and smile. These memories will be with me forever. The things that didn’t get done before I left were still waiting for me when I got home. Having that extra time with my friends was well worth leaving the rest of the stuff behind, I think it was a good lesson for me. I was now in a better place to do them.

Last blog I mentioned that exercising had made a difference in my blood sugar levels. I believe having this kind of a weekend with my friends also has made a positive difference to my blood sugar levels. I came to realize how important my friends are and how good it is to get away every once in a while. I love my friends dearly and I am thankful for their friendship and that we were able to take the time to nourish that.

I encourage everyone to take some time out for themselves…plan a trip with your friends! Leave everything behind it will still be there when you get home.

Great post Lois. Those of us with obsessive tendencies *so* have to learn to let go and recognize that self-limiting fear for what it is. And learn to over-ride it.

Actually Jackie usually over-rides it for me. Ha ha!

Sometimes it is a good thing to have a little help…wherever that may come from! Are you making plans for your next get away??

Thanks Carolynn. I would think it is especially true if you have children!
